THE PROBLEM:

Many shopping centers tend to over-service waste removal in order to maintain a customer friendly environment. That often involves scheduled pickups. Because malls are usually charged the same rate for hauls whether the compactor is full or contains just one piece of garbage, that can be an expensive solution.

Over the course of a year, extra container "pulls" can add up to thousands of dollars. Consequently, while still under construction, the Wolf Chase Galleria Mall was looking for a more cost-effective solution. In addition, management wanted to equitably charge their retail tenants based on their actual use of the compactors. They found that solution to both problems with a technologically advanced waste compactor monitoring system, called Compactor Plus.

THE COMPACTOR PLUS SOLUTION:

The Wolf Chase Galleria was able to keep waste hauling costs to a minimum by choosing a Compactor Plus monitor designed for shopping center and other multi-tenant facilities. The savings is based on the elimination of charges for removal of partially empty containers and the resulting reduction in the number of pickups.

In addition, the system facilitates a 'fair and equitable' billing system, where each tenant is charged individually by the exact amount of waste produced instead of on a per square foot ""CAM"" or Common Area Maintenance basis, a method which many malls currently use.

Tenants can access the compactor by using a keypad, touch pass or credit card-based system, depending on setup. One model can even debit each tenant's prepaid account, thereby eliminating the entire tenant billing process.

The mall tenants also appreciate that the added security eliminates unauthorized use of the compactor, a problem which many malls face because their compactors are usually accessible.

For Wolf Chase it's become a win-win situation, with automatic cost containment, better service, more attractive tenant billing and better security.
